Research into similar films

This is the research I did into similar films to the one I plan on making. I did this research so that I can get a better understanding of the different types of things that are in films of a similar genre so that I can use similar conventions in my opening sequence. These conventions are

-        Camera work

-        Mise-En-Scene

-        Lighting

-        Sound

-        Editing

-        Stylistic Features

-        Representation Of Characters

STORMBREAKER

Camera Work

-        Panning - Used as an establishing shot to show you that the boy goes to school and lives a normal life despite the fact his uncle is a spy.

-        Close-up – Used to show the uncle holding a bomb to show that he isn’t all he seems.

Mise-En-Scene

-        When the boy is shown the shots are framed so that the audience can see he is in a school and he is a normal child just like the other children in his class

-        When the uncle is shown the props used are: motor bikes, bombs, guns, explosives

Lighting

-        The lighting used to show the uncle, who is a spy, is low key to show a sense of mystery

Sound

-        The diegetic sound effects are used to emphasise all the action that takes part in his life that people are unaware of.

Editing

-        Cross cuts – Used to contrast how the uncles life seems ordinary to other but how extra ordinary to himself because he is a spy.

Stylistic Features

-        The titles are all at the beginning and some names are at the bottom of the opening scenes

Representation Of Characters

-        Everyone is unaware that his uncle isn’t the bank worker everyone thinks he is and it shows that spies lead 2 lives

-        He leads a normal life e.g. he goes to school

Institutions

MR AND MRS SMITH

Camera Work

-        Establishing shot shows that where they met was a dangerous place and that it is an unusual place.

-        Medium shots so you can see alll the things the couple are doing

Mise-En-Scene

-        You can only see them answering the questions but not the person asking them the questions to create more of a sense of mystery

Lighting

-        High key so everything in the shot is visible to show they are normal people

Sound

-        Diagetic - helecopter sounds to show they arent ordinary

-        Non-diagetic – music shows that they started off living an exciting life

Editing

-        Time lapse shows that there lives atre boring now compared to how they used to be

Stylistic features

-        Titles and companies are at the beginning and through out to cut up the action

Representation Of Characters

-        Shows that they are plain and boring normally but arent when they are being spies

Institutions

BOURNE ULTIMATUM

Camera Work

-        Close ups and establishing shots contrast to show how he can get away as he is small and the place is big

Mise-En-Scene

-        The police and the man are shown in the same shot so the audience know he is running from the police

Lighting

-        Low key to show it is at night and to add a sense of mystery to imply he isnt all he seems

Sound

-        Diagetic – Police sirens highlight that he is being chased by the police and not anyone else

-        Non-diagetic – builds tension in the scene so that it is clear something is going to happen

Editing

-        Cross cuts show he has little time to run while the polce are after him because you can see the police getting closer to him

Stylistic Features

-        The companies are at the beginning of the action

Representation Of Characters

-        He is seen being chased by the police to im[ply he has done something bad and illegal.
